Wireless Umbilical Assembly

In the guided weapon system, the Umbilical Cable Assembly is a wired cable for power supply and data communication from the ground(fire controller) before the missile is launched.

Its main purpose is to check the on-board equipment before launch or to load data such as target information.

The existing wired umbilical device has the following problems.
  • A malfunction of the separation of the umbilical cord device during launch causes a fatal effect on the overall missile system
  • The cable is composed of several strands, which may cause breakdowns and is inconvenient to handle because it is a wired bundle
  • In fact, mechanical and electrical safety treatments are insufficient after separation of the umbilical device.

[ Examples of the Wired umbilical cable assembly]

By making the wired umbilical device to wireless, various expected effects can be seen as follows.
  • Resolves concerns about malfunction of the umbilical cable
  • Easy handling and maintenance due to the nature of the wireless structure
  • Easy system design (internal wiring design, etc) and platform diversification when developing wireless devices
  • Removal of restrictions on the location of the belly button device
